44/50 - Sybill Trelawney
Wow, I actually made a set! It's sure been a while.
I've been enduring a massive period of creative block. Most of this set has been in my drafts for months. But lately I've been dying to do something creative, especially because of my post-Harry Potter sadness.
I don't really think this picture of Trelawney really fits the set, but I'll have to deal with it, because I can't find a better one. It seems that there aren't very many pictures of her out there.

Consequence of Sounds//The National Geographic
Hey, Polyvore! Happy Valentine's Day! I hope you're doing something enjoyable on this fine evening.
I've been sitting on this set for a while, supposedly because I wanted to add more to it, but really because I've been too lazy to actually publish it and type this all out.
Anyway, this is (surprisingly) my first set about Regina Spektor (whom I adore) and, more specifically, her fabulous song, Consequence of Sounds (which I also adore). The Consequence of Sounds has absolutely fantastic, fun, deep, honest lyrics (provided below, since you can't see them so well in the actual set). Among said lyrics is a mention of the National Geographic. This happens to be my favorite magazine, and its inclusion in the song makes Regina's (already plentiful) points with me increase marginally. So, anyway. This set is, at its foundation, a tribute to Regina Spektor and National Geographic. Maybe they'll be my valentines. (Hah!)

Consequence of Sounds Lyrics:
My rhyme ain't good just yet,
My brain and tongue just met,
And they ain't friends, so far,
My words don't travel far,
They tangle in my hair,
And tend to go nowhere,
They grow right back inside,
Right past my brain and eyes
Into my stomach juice
Where they don't serve much use,
No healthy calories,
Nutrition values.
And I absorb back in
The words right through my skin
They sit there festering inside my bowels

The consonants and vowels
The consequence of sounds
The consonants and vowels
The consequence of sounds

Got a soundtrack in my mind,
All the time. Kids-
Screamin' from too much beat up
And they don't even rhyme,
They just stand there, on a street corner,
Skin tucked in
And meat side out and shout,
And I'd like to turn them down
But there ain't no knob.
Run into picket fences
Not into picket lines.
All this hippie-shit for the 60's
And another cliché for our time. But,
But a one of these days your heart
Will just stop ticking,
And they sorta just don't find you till your cubicle is reeking.

The consonants and vowels
The consequence of sounds
The consonants and vowels
The consequence of sounds
Ahh ah ah ah ahh ah ah ah

Did you know that the gravedigger's still
Gettin' stuck in the machine
Even tough it's a whole other daydream.
It's another town it's another world,
Where the kids are asleep, where the loans are paid
And the lawns are mowed.
Whad'ya think?
All the gravediggers were gone?
Just cause one song is done
There's always another one,
Waiting right around the bend,
Till this one ends,
Then it begins
Squeaky clean, then it starts all over again.

The weather report keeps on
Tossing and turning,
Predicting and warning,
And warning and warning of,
Possible leakage from news publications and,
Possible leakage from news TV stations.
That very same morning right next to her coffee
She noticed some bleeding and heard hollow coughing and
National Geographic was being too graphic,
When all she had wanted to know was the traffic
"The world's got a nosebleed," it said
"And we're flooding but we keep on cutting
The trees and the forests!"
And we keep on paying those freaks on the TV,
Who claim they will save us but want to enslave us.
And sweating like demons they scream through our speakers
But we leave the sound on 'cause silence is harder.
And no one's the killer and no one's the martyr
The world that has made us can no longer contain us
And profits are silent then rotting away 'cause

The consonants and vowels
The consequence of sounds.
The consonants and vowels
The consequence of sounds.
Ah ah ah...

My rhyme ain't good just yet,
My brain and tongue just met,
And they ain't friends, so far,
My words don't travel far,
They tangle in my hair,
And tend to go nowhere,
They grow right back inside,
Right past my brain and eyes
Into my stomach juice
Where they don't serve much use,
No healthy calories,
Nutrition values.
And I absorb back in
The words right through my skin
They sit there festering inside my bowels

The consonants and vowels
The consequence of sounds
The consonants and vowels
The consequence of sounds

I feel like this is a surfing advertisement or something. :p

No offense to Polyvore, but the new profile layout is really quite lame. I hope they change it.
***Edit 12/22: Okay, it looks like you can actually customize your profile to have what you want on it. So, if you're like me and "like" way more sets than you actually make, you can choose to show only your own stuff.

This is not an Ana Lucia quote or anything, but I think it fits her. She just has that attitude.

It's All In Your Mind

It's All In Your Mind
Another music-inspired set, as promised!
This one's based on the song "Spaceman" by The Killers. It took me a while to like this song, but after listening to it a few more times, it really grew on me. It has excellent lyrics, which present a nice metaphor. That doesn't mean I necessarily know what it means, but, as with many songs, I like to think that the writer does, and that makes me happy. Here are the lyrics:

It started with a low light
Next thing I knew they ripped me from my bed
And then they took my blood type
It left a strange impression in my head
You know that I was hoping
That I could leave this star crossed world behind
But when they cut me open
I guess I changed my mind

And you know I might
Have just flown too far from the floor this time
Cause they're calling me by my name
And the zipping white light beams
disregarding bombs and satellites
Oh that was the turning point,
That was one lonely night

The song maker says, "It ain't so bad"
The dream maker's gonna make you mad
The spaceman says, "Everybody look down"
It's all in your mind

Well, now I'm back at home
And I'm looking forward to this life I live
You know it's gonna haunt me
So hesitation to this life I give
You think you might cross over
You're caught between the devil and the deep blue sea
You better look it over
Before you make that leap

And you know I'm fine
But I hear those voices at night
Sometimes
they justify my claim
And the public don't dwell on my transmission
Cause it wasn't televised
But it was the starting point
On a lonely night

The song maker says, "It ain't so bad"
The dream maker's gonna make you mad
The spaceman says, "Everybody look down"
It's all in your mind

The song maker says, "It ain't so bad"
The dream maker's gonna make you mad
The spaceman says, "Everybody look down"
It's all in your mind

My global position systems are vocally addressed
They say the Nile used to run from East to West
They say the Nile used to run from East to West

I'm fine ,
But I hear those voices at night
Sometimes

The song maker says, "It ain't so bad"
The dream maker's gonna make you mad
The spaceman says, "Everybody look down"
It's all in your mind

The song maker says, "It ain't so bad"
The dream maker's gonna make you mad
The spaceman says, "Everybody look down"
It's all in your mind

It's all in my mind

My parents and I just started re-watching LOST from where we left off in the fifth season. Let me say, it's as amazing as ever.

Don't Let Me Down

Don't Let Me Down
I decided it was time to make another Beatles set. Why? Because they're awesome. And what better song to incorporate than the one that's been stuck in my head all day?
I'd also like to draw attention to the fact that it's been raining, which is also awesome. This picture reminded me of that, because of the umbrellas.
Expect more music-themed sets from me in the near future. I can't for the life of me figure out why I hadn't made any sooner.
Anyway, I'm pretty pleased with this. I hope you are, too

The pictures in this set are all from the Season 3 episode "Par Avion." I love that episode; it's so hopeful and touching. The text is from the letter Claire writes. Here it is, since you can't really read it in the set:
"To whom it may concern,
We are survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. We have survived on this island for 80 days. We were 6 hours into the flight when the pilot said we were off course and turned back towards Fiji. We hit turbulence and crashed. We've been waiting here, all this time, waiting for rescue that has not come. We do not know where we are, we only know you have not found us. We've done our best to live on this island. Some of us have come to accept that we may never leave it. Not all of us have survived since the crash, but there is new life too, and with it, there is hope. We are alive. Please don't give up on us."
